After Linton is taken away to Thrushcross, young Catherine is heartbroken about it and Nelly keeps tabs on Linton by asking the housekeeper about him and learns that Heathcliff is mean to him and Linton is always sick and weak. On Catherine's birthday, Catherine and Nelly go birdhunting and Catherine wanders off to Wuthering Heughts. Nelly finds her talking to Heathcliff and he mentions to her that he has a son. Catherine wants to mett him but Nelly tries to tell her that its not a good idea that she goes with him. Unble to stop her, they go to meet Linton which Catherine has no idea that it's him and it's her cousin. Heathcliff tells Nelly that he hopes they will get married and they soon start to exchange letters. Nelly finds out about this and immediately terminates their connection. Edagr becomes sick and spends less time with Catherine so Nelly takes over. One day Catherine ends up on Heathcliff's property and he sees her and demands that she vistits Linton. She goes and he begins to talk about marriage which annoys her and she pushes his chair. He then begins to whine and accuses her of assulting him. In my opinion he's alot like his father. After Nelly and Catherine leave, Nelly catches a cold. During the day Catherine takes care of her father and Nelly but at night, she travels to see Linton.

Nelly soons finds out about this and then Edgar finds out. During her story, she stops to explain to Lockwood that all this that she has just explained to him happened just a little over a year ago. Lockwood admits that he might fall in love with the young Catherine but doubts that anything will ever arise from that.

Nelly goes on to finsih her story, telling him that Linton continued to become weaker but assured them that he would be fine. Edgar's health continues to get worse and Linton is pretrified because Heathcliff is forcing him to ask for Catherine's hand in marriage and is afraid she will say no. Edgar ends up dying and is buried next to his wife. Catherine moves to Wuthering Heights and Heathcliff demands that she works for her stay. She states that they truly are in love and she takes care of Linton until he dies. After hsi death, she remains at the estate, keeping to herself.
